Traffic surveys and data collection
Services may begin with traffic counts, turning movements, speed observations, pedestrian or bicycle counts, parking observations and other field data. Video can provide a reviewable record when camera location and image quality are suitable.
Intersection and corridor analysis
Engineering analysis can examine traffic volumes, lane use, signal control, queues, delays, capacity-related measures and operational performance. The selected method should match the level of detail required by the project.
Traffic impact assessment
Traffic impact work commonly connects existing conditions, project-generated traffic, background growth, future conditions and mitigation concepts. A clear study should state assumptions, study periods, data sources and limitations.
Simulation and scenario testing
Microsimulation and other modelling methods can help test operational scenarios when a sufficiently detailed model and appropriate calibration data are available. Simulation should complement, not replace, sound field data and engineering judgement.
